Sunny Venice Beach
Day 6
13.07.2010
26 °C
With nothing on the 'To Do' List, today we pretty much just chilled out on Venice Beach. D went for a run this morning and I sat and read a book. Now that we are really settling into this whole "backpacking" business we have truely chilled out and decided that alarms are 'out' and doing not much when you don't feel like it, is definitely 'in'.
It was beautiful weather today, with the dreary clouds disappearing well before we woke up. It's been quite interesting, as everyday so far has started out with serious cloud cover, almost fog and has taken until lunch time or even the afternoon to really clear up and show us some sun. Not what I imagined LA to be like at all, quite the opposite in fact. I never imagined a cloud in the sky. I suppose this is one thing I have learnt from our experiences so far, that the weather is very different to what I imagined. It's almost like Warrnambool weather, cool in the morning, a beautiful sunny day and then when it hits about 5:30pm it cools right down. I suppose that's where the eclectic dress sense comes from!

So we pretty much just sat on the beach today, chatted for a bit and then strolled south along Venice Beach towards Marina Del Rey. It was a beautiful walk, with the beach becoming less crowded the further we walked. Along the way we came across something quite interesting, something Dion would rather like to forget actually. It was those tiny little muscles that dig themselves vertically into the sand right on the waters edge. Of those who can remember, Dion had a rather unfortunate accident not once, but twice while holidaying in Port Fairy a couple of years ago and sliced his leg and hand open! Mind you though these little buggers were a fair bit bigger, stronger looking and more densely packed than in Port Fairy, so skim boarding was definitely out of the picture for today's events.
Getting back to 'our' part of the beach we checked out the Skate Park again. There are some amazing kids and adults who obviously spend the best part of their day at the skate park doing their 'thing'! There were also these young kids that were brilliant and doing these very cool tricks. Surrounding the edge of the park were heaps of people, including us that were watching in awe. It was pretty amazing actually.
After wathcing the sunset last night, we decided to go and watch it set behind the hills again, although tonight we were a tad late. Still we weren't disappointed as we found a pretty cool stall were we could buy our much needed hacky sack. $3 later we are now set for the bus stop boredom!

P.S. Thanks for all your comments guys, not sure if we can reply to you directly, but keep them coming in. Love it! Also a huge thanks Bezza and Sarah for your movie name "Volcano", not sure how I didn't get that name with the knowledge that lava comes up through the Tar Pits! You have definitely put my mind at ease.
Cheers,
Loz and Dougy

I saw a new hackie sac in Dions bedroom the other day, before you mentioned in your blog, and had a thought that he could have taken it in his back pack it wouldn't have taken up much space, have you pumped up your footy yet D?
